Museum Aircraft Inventory Collection Spans WWII and Desert Storm

Meticulously restored aircraft – from World War II to Operation Desert Storm – are on display for all visitors aboard the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. We are constantly restoring aircraft and adding them to those on display. A sample of our inventory:

  • World War II aircraft including the SBD Dauntless dive bomber and TBM Avenger
  • Korean War aircraft such as the F9F-8P Cougar and AD Skyraider
  • Vietnam aircraft including the F-4 Phantom and Huey gunship
  • Desert Storm aircraft such as the A-6 Intruder and F/A-18 Hornet
The Texan flew in WWII and thereafter was an advanced pilot trainer.
SNJ Texan
The Intruder was a versatile medium-attack jet and was the backbone of the Navy from Vietnam into the 1990s.
A-6 Intruder
Too late to see action in WWII, the Skyraider served with distinction in the Korean War and throughout the Vietnam War.
A-1 Skyraider
A powerful, light-attack jet, the Corsair II flew from the Vietnam era up to Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
A-7 Corsair II
The Viking was the Navy's first carrier-based anti-submarine jet, using detection equipment and dropping torpedoes.
S-3 Viking
The Seasprite was one of the first turbine-powered Navy helicopters, conducting rescue and anti-submarine missions.
SH-2 Seasprite
The Seaking introduced all-weather helicopter flying capability and was favored for Apollo astronaut recovery.
SH-3 Seaking
This Phantom features markings designating the first and last MiG shootdowns of the Vietnam War--by jets flying off Midway.
F-4 Phantom II
Famous for the TOPGUN movie, the Tomcat was equally capable of engaging distant targets as well as dogfight combat.

A high-altitude, high-speed performer, the Vigilante was the Navy's foremost photo-taking aircraft for nearly 30 years.
RA-5 Vigilante
U.S. Navy Huey gunships operated in the Mekong River delta, supporting riverine forces in the Vietnam War.

The TBM Avenger flew a variety of missions in WWII, including torpedo, bombing, and anti-submarine warfare.
