Grade 3 Math: On Board With Geometric Shapes and Angles

Keeping Midway shipshape...

Crewmembers aboard Midway not only had to identify the various aircraft in order to service and repair them, they also needed to conduct repairs to the ship at a moment's notice. Students use their knowledge of quadrilaterals and geometric shapes to assist their identification of aircraft. Students measure obtuse, right and acute angles as they complete a Damage Control activity. Our on board workshops are designed to teach Content Standards: Measurement and Geometry (2.1, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6)
Program fee: $7 per student

Grade 3 Social Studies: On Board with Communities

Midway is like a small town, floating on the ocean...

Students learn about the USS Midway, a city at sea, and the special attributes needed by those who lived together in that city. By exploring how cooperation, respect, caring and teamwork enabled the ship’s crew to live together, students connect the personal qualities required by the Midway crew and those found in citizens of all successful communities. Students will design a "Citizenship Medal" for themselves to serve as a reminder of their visit and of the qualities of good citizenship, at sea or on land. Our on board workshops are designed to teach Content Standards: History-Social Science (3.4.2, 3.4.3).

Program fee: $7 per student
