Digital Content Manager (pdf)

San Diego’s leading tourist attraction, the USS Midway Museum, is seeking a dynamic digital content media professional to develop and execute a content strategy and road map for the Museum’s online presence. This is not just a job; this is an opportunity for adventure! We are looking to “catapult” our online presence to “supersonic” levels!

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a content strategy and roadmap for Midway's website and social media properties
  • Maintain the content calendar for all digital properties (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
  • Acts as the primary site publisher, organizing site hierarchy and determining appropriate standards.
  • Act as the primary internal content stakeholder on any new digital development initiatives.
  • Proactively identify, recommend, and implement digital enhancements to support marketing, membership, education programs.
  • Produce effective and compelling online campaigns and content to grow fan base, traffic to websites and engagement.
  • Analyze and report online user activity data; develop the Museum’s understanding of visitor’s behavior; develop site content and enhancement recommendations to address trends.
  • Moderate blog comments and engage; report as appropriate.
  • Ensures the web site and events calendar remains up to date and current by coordinating regular changes with other internal departments.
  • Update and maintain site content using the content management system.
  • Manage delivery and scheduling of e-newsletters and e-promotions.
  • Ensure content is SEO-optimized.
  • Manage, produce and maintain an audio/video/photo library for web and social media sites
  • Responsible for maintenance of links and adherence to the information architecture of the sites through the sites’ content management system

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication or a related field strongly preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience managing content and production for high traffic websites and social media channels.
  • Proven track record of developing an effective strategy and roadmap for digital media initiatives in an organization.
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong project management, planning and strategic thinking skills, as well as the ability to lead a cross functional team to drive results.
  • Have an intimate, demonstrated knowledge of social platforms and tools – including experience -blogging, tweeting, optimizing content for SEO, Google analytics, and setting up monitoring programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent editing/proofreading skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and ideation skills
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Solid experience with content management systems and databases.

  • Experience with Drupal and front-end web development preferred
  • Experience with audio/video editing suites a plus.

The USS Midway Museum is America's most-visited historic floating ship museum. Rated seventh in the United States attractions on Trip Advisor, it is dedicated to preserving the legacy and contributions of naval aviation as well as honoring those who serve America in uniform. It is the top-rated attraction in San Diego and hosts more than 1,000,000 visitors annually. Located in downtown San Diego, it is open daily and also serves as an education resource and a private event facility. This is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring the museum exhibits are constantly maintained in excellent condition and that all equipment is functioning effectively for a consistently exceptional guest experience.

    Job Details
  • Days: Sunday & Monday, with the ability to work occasional evenings/weekends and other times as required.
  • Hours: 9 am – 5:30 pm, 16-24 hours per week.
  • Hourly rate: $15+ DOE
    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Exhibit’s AV, including signage and the Battle of Midway Theatre. This includes turning on equipment at open, and securing it at close.
  • Responsible for the generation of Job Orders/Discrepancy Reports and Status Reports.
  • Assist Volunteers in effecting appropriate tasks, both in resources and in the management of projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Associates’ degree strongly preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years AV production experience including AMX Show Control and Video Projection.
  • Experience with Musion Technology a plus.

Aircraft Structural Restoration Technician

The USS Midway Museum has an opening for a formally trained Aircraft Corrosion Technician to work with our staff and team of volunteers. This position will perform corrosion control, prevention and restoration on the USS Midway’s aircraft and related support equipment.

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Identifies, removes and/or treats corrosion through chemical and mechanical means.
  • Aircraft preservation/restoration - Preserve, repair, restore, remanufacture, replace
  • Removes protective aircraft coating to inspect for corrosion as required.
  • Washes aircraft and components.
  • Applies Corrosion Preventative measures on museum aircraft.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting/touch-up.
  • Fabricate skins and structural components.
  • Assists and instructs volunteers.
  • Guide and direct volunteers in preservation and restoration of aircraft.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Trained and experienced in metal fabrication, forming.
  • Minimum qualification 5 years as a structural fabricator/mechanic.
  • Shows experience in training others.
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Requires a high degree of tact, judgment, knowledge, integrity, and the ability to deal with and others in a positive manner.

Position Summary

San Diego’s top-rated attraction, the USS Midway Museum, has an opening for an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team. This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

$10 - $12 hour based on experience

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleansers, solvents, soap solutions, and polishes
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors
  • Wash walls and equipment
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, vacuums, brooms and mops for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, equipment, etc.

The USS Midway Museum, located in downtown San Diego, is seeking a dynamic professional with a proven track record in travel industry sales. The Travel Industry Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to sell the USS Midway Museum experience to tour operators, hotels, destination management companies, corporations and other travel related industry organizations. This position requires a significant amount of car travel with some occasional overnight stays.

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement TIS Marketing Sales Plan.
  • Establish and cultivate top level relationships among existing and perspective travel industry partners.
  • Along with selling and business-building skills, develop and deliver presentations and customer proposals to sell the Midway experience to successfully promote and consummate the sale of products to achieve or exceed the sales plan.
  • Serve as a driver of business development and grow current and new business. Utilize data sources to analyze and capitalize on sales opportunities with the greatest ROI. Communicate key competitive activities, trends, and changing customer development plans and priorities, which includes emerging customers.
  • Establish and maintain a customer database (CRM software). Use system completely to fulfill management expectations recording and utilizing customer and sales information.
  • Manage and mentor the TIS Assistant.
  • Manage programs that include e-tickets, pre-sold, group and consignment tickets and vouchers.
  • Represents the museum at industry related tradeshows, conventions, meetings and vendor fairs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ related experience.
  • A proven track record in travel industry sales.
  • Established relationships and networks in the Southern California travel industry preferred.
  • Experience in delivering presentations to groups/individuals.
  • Knowledge of Gateway/Galaxy ticketing a plus!
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of the outside sales process-cold calling, prospect development, closing, account servicing.
  • Comfortable with public speaking/group presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-initiating business environment.
