The USS Midway Museum has several openings for Custodial/Janitorial positions.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, shifts vary, must be able to work nights & weekends!
  • Status: 60 Day Temporary assignment with potential for full time after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $10.00
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS!
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleansers, solvents, soap solutions, and polishes
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors
  • Wash walls and equipment
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, vacuums, brooms and mops for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, equipment, etc.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or a related field

Skills/Abilities:

  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to follow written/verbal instructions
  • Ability to operate and use small power/hand tools
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. Shifts vary and require ability to work nights and weekends
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height
  • Equipment Operated: Small power tools, buffer/scrubber, and janitorial equipment

Position Summary
The Lot Attendant is responsible for monitoring team member parking to maximize utilization and coordinating with the parking vendor.

Status: Part-time, 20 Hours per week

Pay rate: $9.00/ hour

Schedule: Tues, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
                Wed, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
                 Thurs, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • HS Student, HS diploma or GED equivalent
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed in a parking lot/garage and onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
  • Physical Requirements:Climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 20 pounds; walking long distances and standing for long periods of time.

Part-Time Guest Services Representative(pdf)

Are you upbeat, positive, reliable and have a passion for people? Are you looking for a job in a unique and fun environment? The most visited aircraft carrier museum, the USS Midway Museum, is looking for people-oriented, friendly part-time guest service associates to be among the first people our guests interact with as they come aboard, and the last they will encounter as they leave.

As a Guest Services Representative, the most important task you will perform is to pro-actively engage our guests making them feel welcomed, comfortable, and important.

While you are busy doing that, here are some other operational tasks that you will be responsible for:

  • 1. Entry Brow/Pier: Greet guests as they come aboard. Scan tickets and check other forms of admission
  • 2. Hangar Deck Entrance: Greet guests as they enter the Hangar Deck and direct them to Audio Tour line.
  • 3. Audio Tour distribution: Ensure guests receive their audio tour equipment and understand how to use it.
  • 4. Audio Tour Return: Guests turns in their audio equipment and are thanked for visiting as they leave.

Pay rate: $10.00/ hour
Schedule: 20–30 hours per week, must be able to work Sunday – Thursday!

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • HS Student, HS diploma or GED equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience a plus!

Skills/Abilities

  • Must be friendly, personable and comfortable engaging with guests.
  • Reliable and dependable: ability to report to work as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate excellent guest services skills.
  • A team player. Must work well with others.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions, indoor and outdoor.
  • Physical Requirements:Stretching and bending are moves commonly made throughout the day by employees working in this position. Frequent lifting, carrying, transporting, loading and unloading Audio equipment. Walking long distances, frequent twisting, bending and stooping, and standing for long periods of time.

Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
 

Seeking motivated skilled laborers needed to provide the general labor necessary for the maintenance of naval shipboard systems and support the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, must be able to work nights & weekends
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $11 - $12 per hour based on experience 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in basic construction and plumbing services
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Perform basic equipment repair
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required
  • U.S. Navy shipboard maintenance experience a plus!
  • Basic knowledge of shipboard electrical, mechanical and auxiliary systems preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. 
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry heavy objects; reach both above and below shoulder height

Ships Preservation Supervisor (pdf)

Position Summary:
 

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager,  this position­ is responsible for assisting with daily preservation updates, as well as cargo rigging, crane operations, heavy equipment operations, deck maintenance, working aloft, small boat operation, and other duties performed by the engineering department.  

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the ships corrosion control program
  • Provide supervision of ships preservation team
  • Operate lift equipment
  • Conduct maintenance of small boats and paint equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • 4 years of experience in U.S. Navy Shipboard operations, corrosion control, painting/preservation, hazmat handling and spray painting

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of aircraft carrier hull structure, compartments, engineering plant configuration, ground tackle, small boats, and deck equipment.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Self-motivated and problem solver without supervision.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
  • Ability to work weekend and evening hours.

Seeking an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team.  This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $12 per hour 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

  • Painting, demolition, scraping, etc.
  • Assist in basic construction
