Exhibits Project Manager (pdf)

The Exhibits Manager reports to Director of Operations and is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining the Museum’s exhibits as well as the daily operations of the Exhibits department. The position performs project management duties in direct contact with staff, volunteers, and vendors.

This position works closely with a variety of constituents, requiring the candidate possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including a proven ability to tactfully collaborate on challenging issues.

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the exhibit production process including concept, design, proposals and estimates, installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Work directly with staff/volunteers to manage the schedule and workflow of projects and communicate expectations, deliverables and deadlines to team members
  • Provides leadership and support for exhibit staff and volunteers.
  • Manages the relationships and work of exhibits vendors, suppliers and contractors.
  • Develops and reviews exhibit plans in accordance with directives from the Museum President and Planning Committee.
  • Oversees the design and production of exhibit and way finding signage.
  • Trains and advises departmental maintenance staff on proper exhibit cleaning and maintenance techniques.
  • Provides input for the annual budget for exhibit development and maintenance.
  • Continues to learn and be informed of emerging trends and technology in the industry.
  • Works closely with the department volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years management experience leading a team of 2 or more.
  • Two years of museum technician experience or shop experience in another institution.
  • Experience working with volunteers a plus.
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Project management skills.
  • Outstanding computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel,Outlook, Adobe and other design related applications.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a self-initiating business environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently.
  • Organizational skills to manage competing priorities and expectations and timely delivery of projects.

Working Conditions:

Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.
Physical Requirements:Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height.
Equipment Operated:Small power tools, janitorial equipment, computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Position Summary

San Diego’s top-rated attraction, the USS Midway Museum, has an opening for an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team. This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

$10 - $12 hour based on experience
Status: 60 day temporary assignment with potential for full time after assignment is completed
Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE THAT WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

    Summary of Responsibilities
  • Painting, demolition, scraping, etc.
  • Assist in basic construction
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of related experience required
  • Shipboard painting experience required.
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.

  • RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS!
    Working Conditions:
  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. Shifts vary and require ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 80 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height.
  • Equipment Operated: Aircraft elevator, fork lift, man lift, aircraft tow truck, buffer/scrubber, pallet jack, small power tools and janitorial equipment.

Pay rate: $10.00 hour

POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS!!

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleansers, solvents, soap solutions, and polishes
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors
  • Wash walls and equipment
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, vacuums, brooms and mops for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, equipment, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or a related field
    Skills/Abilities:

San Diego’s top-rated attraction, the USS Midway Museum has an excellent opportunity for a service- oriented Membership Associate with a passion for people and customer service. .

    Schedule:
  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday, 5 days per week, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Occasional nights and weekends based on event schedule.

  • In this role, the Associate is the main point of contact for prospective and existing members via email, phone and in-person, and will assist the Director of Membership with the planning, design and execution of membership events.

      Summary of Responsibilities:
      Member Service
    • Respond to telephone and email membership inquiries, greet and assist membership walk-ins.
    • Process membership payment transactions and update constituent records using Raiser’s Edge.
    • In collaboration with Guest Services, assist guests with the purchase of a Midway Membership using the point-of-sale system.
    • Order supplies for the department.
    • Assist with other membership processing and office duties as assigned.
    • Events and Marketing
    • Assist the Director of Membership with the creation, planning, design, and execution of Member special events including budget monitoring and vendor payments.
    • Assist the Director of Membership with design and execution of membership recruitment and retention strategies.
    • Manage ticketing, webpages, and eblasts for Member special events, promotions, and announcements using Net Community and other systems.
    • Provide on-site support during member events.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

      Education/Experience:
    • Four year degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 1-2 years of customer service experience.
    • Prior experience in event planning, design and execution highly preferred.
      Skills/Abilities:
    • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Experience with a donor database/constituent relationship management system and mass email system, specifically Raiser’s Edge and Net Community, a plus.
    • Excellent customer service skills in person and on the phone.
    • Data entry and gift processing experience a plus.
    • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
    • Ability to multi-task and problem-solve with limited supervision.
    • Accurate and detail-oriented.
    • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
      Working Conditions:
    • Job Conditions/Work Location:Work is performed in an office; hangar and flight deck aboard ship. Work schedule is 5 days a week, 40 hours a week, with the ability to work occasional evenings/weekends.
    • Physical Requirements: Need to climb up and down stairs and ladders; to bend; stoop, and lift to move and retrieve office materials.
    • Equipment Operated: : Computer, printer, fax machine, credit card machine, telephone, copier, scanner, and postage machine.

    Frontline Guest Service Representatives – Part-time(pdf)

    Are you upbeat, positive, reliable and have a passion for people? Are you looking for a job in a unique and fun environment? The most visited aircraft carrier museum, the USS Midway Museum, is looking for people-oriented, friendly part-time guest service associates to be among the first people our guests interact with as they come aboard, and the last they will encounter as they leave.

    As a Guest Services Representative, the most important task you will perform is to pro-actively engage our guests making them feel welcomed, comfortable, and important.

    While you are busy doing that, here are some other operational tasks that you will be responsible for:
     1. Entry Brow/Pier: Greet guests as they come aboard. Scan tickets and check other forms of admission.
     2. Hangar Deck Entrance: Greet guests as they enter the Hangar Deck and direct them to Audio Tour line.
     3. Audio Tour distribution: Ensure guests receive their audio tour equipment and understand how to use it.
     4. Audio Tour Return: Guests turns in their audio equipment and are thanked for visiting as they leave.

    Pay Rate: $9.50/Hour

      Schedule:
    • 20-30 hours per week
    • Must be able to work Sunday-Thursday!

    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

        Education/Experience:
      • High school student, HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
      • Prior customer service experience a plus.
        Skills/Abilities:
      • Must be friendly, personable and comfortable engaging with guests.
      • Reliable and dependable: ability to report to work as scheduled.
      • Demonstrate excellent guest services skills.
      • A team player. Must work well with others.
        Working Conditions:
      • Job Conditions/Work Location: Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions, indoor and outdoor.
      • Physical Requirements: Stretching and bending are moves commonly made throughout the day by employees working in this position. Frequent lifting, carrying, transporting, loading and unloading Audio equipment. Walking long distances, frequent twisting, bending and stooping, and standing for long periods of time.
