Event Production Technician (pdf)

San Diego’s leading tourist attraction is looking for a professional with technical knowledge and ability setting temporary power and balancing electrical loads for events plus knowledge of basic sound and lighting equipment for meetings and events.

The Event Production Technician is responsible for coordination and installation of the client and vendors’ needs of temporary electrical service and audio visual services. This person will distribute ship’s power for event vendors’ equipment and physically sets up and tears down Midway’s electrical and audio visual equipment.

The position schedule varies based on events and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends as the event schedule demands.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Reads all event orders and checks all diagrams for set up required.
  • Coordinates with Event Managers for client and vendors’ needs of temporary electrical service and audio visual services.
  • Liaison to event vendors for questions and information regarding electrical power needs.
  • Distributes ship’s power for event vendors’ equipment.
  • Physically sets up and tears down electrical and audio visual equipment per event orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Meets with clients on site to ensure that their needs are met and the equipment setup is working properly.
  • Delivers superior customer service by monitoring events and checking in on clients throughout the event’s duration.
  • Demonstrates good operational ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with issues relating to audio visual services.
  • Trains Facilities staff on basic audio visual setup.
  • Conducts audit of electrical service use for each event.
  • Liaisons to 3rd party power vendor and monitors their billing.
  • General inventory, maintenance and cleaning of ship’s event equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, sound and lighting equipment, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Load/unload necessary equipment using ship’s lift equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Event electrical power and load balance technical ability and knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic sound and lighting equipment for special events.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve without supervision.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.

Working Conditions:
 Job Conditions/Work Location:  Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:  Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 80 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height
Equipment Operated: Aircraft elevator, ship’s lift equipment, fork lift, man lift, pallet jack, small power tools and janitorial equipment.

Status: 60 Day Temporary Assignment with potential for full time after assignment is completed.
Schedule: 40 Hours per week, Shifts vary, Must be able to work nights & weekends!

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleaners, solvents, soap solution, and polishes.
  • Clean and dust furniture; sweep, mop, vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom containers.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard-surface floors.
  • Wash walls and equipment.
  • Use and mantain assigned power equipment and hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or related field.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Team Player - ready and willing to help wherever needed.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
 

Seeking motivated skilled laborers needed to provide the general labor necessary for the maintenance of naval shipboard systems and support the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, must be able to work nights & weekends
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $11 - $12 per hour based on experience 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in basic construction and plumbing services
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Perform basic equipment repair
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required
  • U.S. Navy shipboard maintenance experience a plus!
  • Basic knowledge of shipboard electrical, mechanical and auxiliary systems preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.

Position Summary:
 

Seeking an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team.  This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $12 per hour 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

  • Assist in basic construction

Position Summary:
 
The USS Midway Museum, America’s most visited aircraft carrier museum, is seeking a service oriented, highly detailed Membership Assistant to provide accurate data entry (using Raiser’s Edge database) of Membership sales, participant registrations, and perform administrative duties to support department needs.  Also provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service to Midway Members and participants via phone and in person.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Enters memberships, payment entry and check deposit preparation, fulfillment (printing, collating, and mailing) of Member benefits/items.
  • Respond to telephone and email membership inquiries, greet and assist membership walk ins
  • Routinely perform filing, email correspondence, phone correspondence, mailings, inquiry follow-ups, and excellent customer service.
  • Efficiently update database with address changes, member requests, and additional contact information.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • HS Diploma required. Trade school or some college preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in similar environment.
  • Prior experience working in member services or with donor databases (i.e. Raiser’s Edge) a plus!

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills in person and on the phone.
  • Highly accurate data entry abilities.

Youth Programs Reservation Coordinator – Part-Time 25 hrs week

Position Summary:
 

The USS Midway Museum, America’s most visited aircraft carrier museum, is seeking a service oriented, highly detailed Reservation Coordinator to process reservation requests for Youth Programs and provide outstanding customer service via phone, email and mail. 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Hour: 25 Hours, 4 or 5 days per week
  • Work Schedule:  Flexible within the 8 am - 5 pm timeframe
  • Occasional weekend or evening required.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Process reservation requests via phone, email, mail, and internet.
  • Input reservation data into Reserve system and master spreadsheet.
  • Email confirmations and materials/guidelines regarding reservations.
  • Email program information to past groups annually and as needed to boost future participation.
  • Maintain master program calendar for department
  • Maintain records and rosters of participants attending education programs
  • Generate bills/invoices and tracks revenue regarding education programs.
  • Generate a variety of reports for the Accounting and Finance departments
  • Meet weekly with the accounting representative and work together to maintain and reconcile all Youth Programs reservations and revenues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • HS Diploma required. Trade school or some college preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in similar environment.
  • Prior experience working in educational tour and program reservations a plus!
