Event Production Technician (pdf)

San Diego’s leading tourist attraction is looking for a professional with technical knowledge and ability setting temporary power and balancing electrical loads for events plus knowledge of basic sound and lighting equipment for meetings and events.

The Event Production Technician is responsible for coordination and installation of the client and vendors’ needs of temporary electrical service and audio visual services. This person will distribute ship’s power for event vendors’ equipment and physically sets up and tears down Midway’s electrical and audio visual equipment.

The position schedule varies based on events and candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends as the event schedule demands.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Reads all event orders and checks all diagrams for set up required.
  • Coordinates with Event Managers for client and vendors’ needs of temporary electrical service and audio visual services.
  • Liaison to event vendors for questions and information regarding electrical power needs.
  • Distributes ship’s power for event vendors’ equipment.
  • Physically sets up and tears down electrical and audio visual equipment per event orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Meets with clients on site to ensure that their needs are met and the equipment setup is working properly.
  • Delivers superior customer service by monitoring events and checking in on clients throughout the event’s duration.
  • Demonstrates good operational ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with issues relating to audio visual services.
  • Trains Facilities staff on basic audio visual setup.
  • Conducts audit of electrical service use for each event.
  • Liaisons to 3rd party power vendor and monitors their billing.
  • General inventory, maintenance and cleaning of ship’s event equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, sound and lighting equipment, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Load/unload necessary equipment using ship’s lift equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Event electrical power and load balance technical ability and knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic sound and lighting equipment for special events.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve without supervision.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.

Working Conditions:
 Job Conditions/Work Location:  Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:  Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 80 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height
Equipment Operated: Aircraft elevator, ship’s lift equipment, fork lift, man lift, pallet jack, small power tools and janitorial equipment.

The USS Midway Museum is seeking an Engineering Project Manager for new construction projects, repairs and upgrades.  This person will report to Midway’s Chief Engineer to coordinate major construction projects.

Job Details:
 
  • Status: Salary, Exempt
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week as neded

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Initiate project set-up.  Estimate initial budgets, schedules, manpower, subcontractors and obtain bids for the project.  Evaluate bids and bidding contractors.
  • Provide contract award recommendation with the CHENG to CEO and CFO as appropriate.
  • Determine project goals and objectives and manage the project team.
  • Review contractor’s production schedule including all tasks, durations, milestones, resources and key events. Oversee updates of schedules to monitor progress and incorporate approved change
  • Resolve all production all production issues that cannot be handled by other members of the production team such as interface problems between crafts, quality assurance, planning, and Midway.
  • Monitor progress and ensure production deadlines are met. 
  • Ensure that Safety, HAZMAT requirements for both OSHA and CA OSHA environmental policies including Midway personnel are met. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • Engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of relevant work experience in marine industry, including 3 years of focused shipyard engineering project management and contract management involving both repair and new construction experience.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to lead collaborations with multiple parties and leadership skills to inspire, motivate, and gain trust from staff, contract partners, vendors, etc.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational, writing and presentation skills and high attention to detail.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned

Working Conditions:
 Job Conditions/Work Location:  Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:  Able to go up and down steep shipboard ladders and crawl into tight spaces.
Equipment Operated: Computer, facsimile, printer, scanner, telephone.

Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
 

Seeking motivated skilled laborers needed to provide the general labor necessary for the maintenance of naval shipboard systems and support the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, must be able to work nights & weekends
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $11 - $12 per hour based on experience 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in basic construction and plumbing services
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Perform basic equipment repair
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required
  • U.S. Navy shipboard maintenance experience a plus!
  • Basic knowledge of shipboard electrical, mechanical and auxiliary systems preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. 
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry heavy objects; reach both above and below shoulder height

Position Summary:
 

Seeking an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team.  This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $12 per hour 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

  • Painting, demolition, scraping, etc.
  • Assist in basic construction
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of related experience required
  • Shipboard painting experience a plus.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.
