Event Sales Coordinator

San Diego’s leading tourist attraction is seeking individuals that are interested in working in a highly collaborative fun environment, appreciate volunteer service, enjoy problem solving and are passionate about making an impact at work.  A relatively young and small organization, the Midway provides an excellent opportunity for staff to experience ownership of their work and see immediate results of their efforts while also enjoying a balanced work/life.
The Event Sales Coordinator is primarily responsible for responding to all private event inquires by phone or email, assisting clients through the sales process for daytime and select evening events, and providing event sales administrative support.   
The position requires regular business hours of 8 am – 5 pm with some schedule flexibility.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Respond to all incoming phone and email inquiries from clients seeking to hold events at the Midway
  • Maintain and distribute appropriate event sales information and policies to those inquiring
  • Forward larger or more complex event inquiries to the Director of Sales for follow-up
  • Create event reservations in Reserve to hold client dates
  • Follow the sales process through with prospective clients on all daytime events and selected evening events
  • Conduct site visits with the support of the Operations Manager or assigned Event Manager as necessary
  • Provide administrative support when the Director of Sales’ prospects are ready to go to contract and process those clients’ payments
  • Produce and maintain Sales Department data base and reports
  • Respond in real time to forwarded phone calls intended for event managers when those managers are not available
  • Serve as a back-up intake person for military event inquiries and clients
  • Provide event calendars, reports, and other information as an interdepartmental liaison.
  • Organize and maintain Sales Department recordkeeping system and office supplies
  • Assist with sales & marketing mail distribution and other joint administrative activities


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required, college degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in special event industry or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience applicable to the duties listed in the job description.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of ReServe a plus.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve without supervision.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location:  Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.
  • Physical Requirements:   Need to climb up and down stairs and ladders; to bend; stoop, and lift to move and retrieve office materials.  Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Equipment Operated:  Hand held radio.  Computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, copier.

The USS Midway Museum has several openings for Custodial/Janitorial positions

Status: 60 Day Temporary Assignment with potential for full time after assignment is completed.
Schedule: 40 Hours per week, Shifts vary, Must be able to work nights & weekends!

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleaners, solvents, soap solution, and polishes.
  • Clean and dust furniture; sweep, mop, vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom containers.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard-surface floors.
  • Wash walls and equipment.
  • Use and mantain assigned power equipment and hand tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or related field.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Team Player - ready and willing to help wherever needed.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written/verbal instructions
  • Ability to operate and use small power/hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressure.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.

Working Conditions:

 Job Conditions/Work Location:  Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:  Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, kneel and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height
Equipment Operated: Small power tools, buffer/scrubber, janitorial equipment.

Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
 

Seeking motivated skilled laborers needed to provide the general labor necessary for the maintenance of naval shipboard systems and support the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, must be able to work nights & weekends
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $11 - $12 per hour based on experience 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in basic construction and plumbing services
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Perform basic equipment repair
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required
  • U.S. Navy shipboard maintenance experience a plus!
  • Basic knowledge of shipboard electrical, mechanical and auxiliary systems preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. 
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry heavy objects; reach both above and below shoulder height

Ship's Painter

Position Summary:
 

Seeking an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team.  This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

Job Details:
 
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies
  • Status: 30-60 day Temporary assignment with potential for full time hire after assignment is completed
  • Hourly rate: $12 per hour 
POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.
 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Painting, demolition, scraping, etc.
  • Assist in basic construction
  • Load/unload event gear with lift equipment
  • Operate shipboard equipment
  • Clean, dust, wipe, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of related experience required
  • Shipboard painting experience a plus.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. 
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 80 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height
  • Equipment Operated: Aircraft elevator, fork lift, man lift, aircraft tow truck, buffer/scrubber, pallet jack, sand blaster, small power tools and janitorial equipment

Are you upbeat, positive, reliable and have a passion for people?  Are you looking for a job in a unique and fun environment?  The most visited aircraft carrier museum, the USS Midway Museum, is looking friendly part-time guest service associates to be make lasting impressions with all of our guests onboard. 

As a Guest Services Representative, the most important task you will perform is to pro-actively engage our guests making them feel welcomed, comfortable, and important. 

While you are busy doing that, here are some other operational tasks that you will be responsible for:

  • 1. Entry Brow/Pier: Greet guests as they come aboard. Scan tickets and check other forms of admission
  • 2. Hangar Deck Entrance: Greet guests as they enter the Hangar Deck and direct them to Audio Tour line.
  • 3. Audio Tour Distribution: Ensure guests receive their audio tour equipment and understand how to use it.
  • 4. Audio Tour Return: Guests turns in their audio equipment and are thanked for visiting as they leave.
Pay rate: $11.50/ hour
Schedule: 20 – 30 hours per week, must be able to work at least one weekend day, along with weekday availability. Sunday availability a plus!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be friendly, personable and comfortable engaging with guests.
  • Reliable and dependable: ability to report to work on time as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate excellent guest services skills.
  • A team player. Must work well with others.

Working Conditions:
 Job Conditions/Work Location:  Working onboard a former Navy Aircraft Carrier in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:  Stretching and bending are moves commonly made throughout the day by employees working in this position. Frequent lifting, carrying, transporting, loading and unloading Audio equipment. Walking long distances, frequent twisting, bending and stooping, and standing for long periods of time.
