We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, driven to succeed individual to work directly with the department’s Exhibits Manager and volunteer corps to prepare, service and maintain exhibits. This person is a self-starter with knowledge of Theatrical and Production AV equipment as well as high & low tech exhibits. A naval/nautical background is recommended but not necessary to apply. This is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring the museum exhibits are constantly maintained in excellent condition and that all equipment is functioning effectively for a consistently exceptional guest experience. Work schedule is Wed-Fri., 7:30 am – 4:00 pm and 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Saturdays and Sundays, with the ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, some holidays. Some overnight travel may be needed.

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Exhibit’s AV, including signage and the Battle of Midway Theatre. This includes turning on equipment at open, and securing it at close.
  • Responsible for the generation of Job Orders/Discrepancy Reports and Status Reports.
  • Assist Volunteers in effecting appropriate tasks, both in resources and in the management of projects.
  • Assist the Exhibits Team as we design and develop new Exhibits and replacement technologies utilizing automation, microprocessors, 3D Modeling, CNC Routing, mold-making and casting, and media management systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • 1-2 years AV production experience including AMX Show Control and Video Projection.
  • Experience with Musion Technology a plus.
    Skills/Abilities:
  • Trouble-shooting of Entertainment Systems and maintenance including Projectors, Audio and Lighting Equipment.
  • General maintenance and light construction skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • General Contracting Tool Use, ability to operate Scissor Lift, Forklift, to OSHA specifications.
  • Valid California Driver’s license and clean driving record.
    Working Conditions:
  • Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier.
  • Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height.
  • Equipment Operated: Audio/Lighting Systems, Video Projectors and Servers, Media players, Smart Monitors and Displays, Arduino, Devices, Scent Machines, Scissor/Boom Lift, Small power tools, shop bench equipment, janitorial equipment, computer, printer, radio communication, fax machine, telephone, copier and scanner.

Development Associate (pdf)

The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development and conducts a wide range of activities to raise funds for the organization using a variety of skilled administrative and clerical duties related to development activities.

This position works closely with a variety of constituents, requiring the candidate possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and a high attention to detail and accuracy.

    Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Performs general receptionist/clerical duties for the development department: answers phone calls, greets and assists guests with parking/tours, processes mail, orders office supplies, and maintains department files
  • Provides administrative support to the USS Midway Foundation Board of Directors, development staff, and annual gala and special events
  • Tracks and monitors budget revenue and expenses
  • Coordinates the quarterly submission for the Currents newsletter including drafting and editing copy and sourcing images
  • Maintains donor database and generates reports as needed
  • Generates all donor communication including gift acknowledgements and fulfillment
  • Serves as a liaison for all donor database and donor relations questions, internally and externally

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    Education/Experience:
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ of related work experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database highly preferred
    Skills/Abilities
  • Outstanding computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a self-initiating business environment

    Position Summary

    San Diego’s top-rated attraction, the USS Midway Museum, has an opening for an experienced ship painter to be a part of the Ship’s Preservation team. This person will also provide the general labor necessary for the daily operations of the facilities department.

    $10 - $12 hour based on experience
    Status: 60 day temporary assignment with potential for full time after assignment is completed
    Schedule: 40 hours per week, schedule varies.

    MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE THAT WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

    POSITION REQUIRES RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCOMMODATE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS!!

    MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK A SCHEDULE that WILL INCLUDE WEEKENDS, EVENINGS AND HOLIDAYS.

      Summary of Responsibilities:
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, using cleansers, solvents, soap solutions, and polishes
    • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers
    • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors
    • Wash walls and equipment
    • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, vacuums, brooms and mops for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, equipment, etc.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

      Education/Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Prior experience in custodial maintenance or a related field
      Skills/Abilities:
    • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned
