Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteers Make the Midway Magic!

We have over 500 volunteers participating and so many are making a significant impact on our success.  Midway volunteers come from all walks of life, each bringing their skills and passion to the team.  Here is just a sampling of who is contributing.

Larry Laxson

Safety & Docent
December 2011

Larry is retired from a position as Director of Transportation for the school district.   He joined Midway in 2010 and has demonstrated great dedication right from the start!  He has proven to be a valuable member of both the Safety team and Docent corps.  His skills and focus were particularly valuable when the Midway was faced with the challenges of sharing the pier with the America's Cup event.  We are grateful for the time he now dedicates to the USS Midway Museum.

Dave Cowles

Docent
November 2011

Dave Cowles has logged 3,400 volunteer hours aboard Midway.  As a former naval aviator he always has a story to share as a docent.  He's flown several of the aircraft on display on our flight deck, including the Crusader, Tomcat and Hornet.  He's a dedicated volunteer, Docent Council member, and training director.  When it comes to dedication to making the Docent corps the very best it can be, Dave Cowles deserves a lot of credit.

Debbie Bruins

Administration & Safety
October 2011

The Midway is lucky to have Debbie Bruins as a member of the volunteer force. She is a great pleasure to work with. Debbie made an impression in our administrative offices, answering phones and greeting guests with friendly professionalism.  As a safety officer, her customer service skills are exceptional. She is always attentive to the needs of the guests and the department. Observant, kind, and courteous, we all benefit from working with Debbie!
