Midway Members! Join us for our next Live the Adventure dinner and panel discussion – FIRE! Every Sailor’s Greatest Fear
On a ship surrounded by water, one may think that fire would be last on a Navy crew member’s list of onboard ship hazards. Not so as crews train tirelessly for such catastrophes. Fires are one of the most dangerous risks for crew and property with tons of fuel, electrical equipment, bombs, missiles, jet planes, engines, boilers, stores of flammable combustible material, crew accommodations, and more.
FIRE! Every Sailor’s Greatest Fear…
There are many harrowing stories of heroic efforts when fighting fires at sea. Destructive large-scale fires broke out on the USS Nimitz and the USS George Washington causing serious damage. The USS Midway has had its share of infernos, including one started by an onboard arsonist who was eventually caught and jailed. Hear incredible, firsthand historical accounts of dealing with fire at sea, as well as how modern-day firefighters use the ship to practice in difficult places such as deep spaces and high rises.
Advanced ticket is required for this event, tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets are non-refundable. No children under 15 years old will be permitted to attend.
Must be an active USS Midway Museum Member to attend this event.
