The SH-2 Seasprite helicopter was one of the first to incorporate jet turbine engines, completely transforming the naval helicopter. The SH-2F was an anti-submarine helicopter (ASW), equipped with sub-hunting sonobuoys, radar, magnetic detectors, and torpedoes. Because of its compact size, SH-2s were used on destroyers and other escorts to greatly extend the reach of the carrier battlegroup’s anti-submarine protection.
