Distance Learning with Social Studies (Everyday Heroes:)
On board the USS Midway every crewmember made a difference. Each person aboard played a key role in making sure the ship could carry out its mission. In this program students will virtually explore the Midway to see where our “everyday heroes” used the characteristics and qualities of courage, sacrifice, dedication and helping others to complete the mission assigned to them. Students will also see how they, and others, can exhibit those same characteristics. Students will have the opportunity to design a medallion to help them remember the characteristics discussed upon completion of this virtual program.
Registration is open NOW.
Must have a minimum of 12 students to register.
Students will learn about the USS Midway, a “City at Sea”, and the special attributes needed by those who lived together in that city. Through a virtual tour, students will explore how cooperation, respect, caring and teamwork enabled the ship’s crew to live together, and how they, and others in their communities, display these characteristics of a good citizen. Students will have the opportunity to design a citizenship medallion to help them remember the characteristics discussed upon completion of this virtual program.

Must have a minimum of 12 students to register.
During a virtual tour of the Midway students will explore how sailors onboard the USS Midway worked together, using math, to solve everyday challenges. After the visit students can download, to their own mobile devices, an app exclusively designed to support this virtual experience on the Midway. With this app students will be able to explore different areas of the Midway through video, audio, and augmented reality (AR) opportunities. At each stop along the way students will be challenged to solve a math problem related to the area they visited. Program is designed to support Common Core Math Standards for Grades 4 and 5.
Registration is open NOW.
Must have a minimum of 12 students to register.
Teachers registering their classes for this unit will receive access to a series of short recorded virtual visits to specific areas of the USS Midway. Each visit will focus on a topic that will show how computers, computing systems, hardware, software, cybersecurity, and data analysis were used onboard the Midway.
