Exhibits Team

Job Description:

The Exhibits Department volunteers assist with the design and installation of new exhibits, fine-tuning of pre-existing exhibits, and development of wayfinding signage.

Minimum Requirements:  Exhibit Department candidates will possess basic skills in using hand tools, painting, cleaning, restoration, installation, and minor lifting to perform maintenance tasks involving museum exhibits. Eye for detail and craftsmanship preferred. Volunteers must be able to lift 20 lbs., climb the ship’s steep ladders, climb short step ladders, and be able to get down on their knees and get back up without assistance.

Another area within the Exhibit Department focuses on wayfinding signage and exhibit design. Knowledge of or interest in programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is essential. Attention to detail in design and a steady hand are necessary for printing, mounting, and cutting signs for installation.

Training Provided: Training is primarily on the job with direction from key members of the team.

Commitment: A minimum of 8 hours per month (preferably 4 hours per week) on a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday, but primarily needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
