Aircraft Corrosion Control Technician (Aircraft Painter)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Aircraft Corrosion Control Technician is responsible for performing corrosion control, prevention,
and restoration techniques on the USS Midway’s aircraft and related support equipment. This includes
applying protective coatings such as paint, polymer coatings, and corrosion preventative compounds in
accordance with industry and Navy standards.
POSITION DETAILS
- Employment Type: Regular, Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
- Reports To: Airwing Manager
- Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Pay Range: $24.50 – $26.50 per hour
Compensation is based on job-related experience, education, and internal equity. Offers will not
exceed the posted range.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Inspect, identify, and remove corrosion using mechanical and chemical methods
- Strip aircraft coatings for inspection and reapplication as needed
- Clean aircraft and components regularly to prevent corrosion buildup
- Apply corrosion prevention treatments and protective coatings
- Prepare aircraft surfaces for painting and touch-ups
- Apply primers, topcoats, lacquers, and decals according to specifications
- Create and apply stencils, labels, and markings per technical guidance
- Maintain tools and equipment related to painting and corrosion control
- Support aircraft moves and preservation efforts as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Formal training in U.S. Navy Aviation Corrosion Control or equivalent military/civilian
- certification
- Certified or qualified Aircraft Painter
- Hands-on experience in corrosion removal, treatment, and prevention
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in chemical/mechanical cleaning methods and application of protective
- compounds
- Familiarity with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and safety procedures
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling, cleaning agents, and disposal practices
- Understanding of Cal/OSHA safety standards, including fall protection and respirator
- requirements
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Collaborative team player willing to support various aircraft maintenance tasks
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
Additional Information:
- Candidates must pass a background check for Department of Defense base access
Working Conditions
Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed aboard an Aircraft Carrier in all weather
conditions, indoor and outdoor.
Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/downstairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move
and retrieve materials; pull/push lift and carry up to 50 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder
height.
Equipment Operated: Computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, copier, small and large power tools,
tow tractor, folk lift, and other Aircraft Ground Support Equipment.
