Beverage Services Support Specialist (Part-Time)

The USS Midway Museum is an immensely popular event venue. Its unique downtown location, convention center proximity and 360-degree panorama view make it an unparalleled venue for every occasion. More than 700 private and active-duty Navy events are held annually. The Midway can accommodate events for up to 3,500 guests.
The Museum is seeking a Beverage Services Support Specialist that is interested in working in a highly collaborative fun and customer focused environment, appreciates volunteer service, enjoys problem solving and is passionate about making an impact at work. Position Summary: The Beverage Services Support Specialist would be responsible for the preparation of the evening bar, including the receiving, stocking, and preparing of both alcohol and non-alcohol products.
Hours: 18-24 hours per week with 3 – 4 shifts
Schedule: Varies based on event schedule, primarily daytime hours
Pay rate: Minimum wage plus gratuity share.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS AND OCCASIONAL EVENINGS
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enforces state liquor laws including, proper identification procedures, monitoring levels of intoxication, intervention strategies, refusal of service and cutoff procedures
- ID and wristband at certain events for people over 21 as needed.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from internal staff, vendors and other business partners.
- Place weekly orders for beverages and supplies and receive and ensure storage of department deliveries.
- Prepare nightly bartender inventory, including liquor, beer, wine, and non-alcohol product.
- Prepare nightly bartender set-up cart, including trash and recycle cans, ice, floor mats, etc.
- Maintain and set up IPad based Cash/Credit card system and work large cash bar events.
- Back up for Bar Manager for vacations/time off.
- Assist and work at events when needed.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from internal staff, vendors and other business partners.
- All other duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School graduate. College degree preferred.
- Current Food Handler’s Card
- Current California Responsible Beverage Service Certificate
- Experience in a bar or banquet setting
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Computer skills include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Knowledge of Reserve system sales and catering software a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact/communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Accurate and detail oriented.
- Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
- Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed on board an aircraft carrier. Work schedule can be any time Sunday – Saturday with the ability to work Holidays and nights as needed.
Physical Requirements: Constant climbing up/down stairs and ladders; bend stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull/push lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; reach both above and below shoulder height.
Equipment Operated: Computer, printer, fax machine, credit card machine, telephone, copier, scanner and pallet jack.
