Membership Manager
SAN DIEGO, CA
The Membership Manager is a hands-on role responsible for developing and executing the strategy and tactical initiatives to drive member engagement. They will serve as our in-house “expert” on membership and interact frequently with their colleagues across departments. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and with support from administrative staff, this position will work collaboratively with the Development team to implement strategies that will advance the mission and the financial sustainability of the Museum.

Summary of Responsibilities:
- Serve as a leader in the optimization of the member database, working with stakeholders to achieve shared goals. Responsible for records management and database changes including configuration, maintenance, edits, global changes, updates, running reports, importing and exporting lists, and reporting and analyzing data.
- Be a super-user of the CRM member database with a focus on data integrity, best practices, and process improvement.
- Oversee the processing of all memberships and renewals, including printing acknowledgment letters and membership cards.
- Provide customer service to members and annual passholders, including troubleshooting issues with membership fulfillment.
- Manage renewal notes, member level upgrades, and campaigns to engage lapsed members.
- Responsible for personalized communication to constituents, including content and design for member e-blasts, newsletters, campaigns, website, and printed collateral.
- Oversee Midway Veteran program, including redemption of Lifetime passes and Museum communication.
- Plan and execute up to eight annual membership events, including online ticket sales, invitations, and logistics, while soliciting post-event feedback.
- Work with front-line staff to identify sales and service patterns and act as an expert on these patterns.
- Lead the collaboration with the Development team to create a roadmap for sustainable membership growth, establish short- and long-range plans and goals to achieve organization objectives, and outline data-driven member engagement, retention, and recruitment strategy and implementation plan.
- Research and cultivate member relationships through tours, visits, and outreach to identify opportunities to grow support.
- Recruit, manage, and engage volunteers to support membership program needs.
- Serve as an “expert” on the membership program, acting as a customer relation “trouble shooter” if member issues need to be addressed.
- Represent the Museum before professional museum organizations, relevant outside entities, and the general public.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education & Experience:
- Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least three years’ experience in membership or development role for a non-profit organization.
- Experience with constituent records management database systems.
- Experience in event planning, design, and execution.
Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to present to a large audience.
- Effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships internally and externally.
- Ability to influence and engage a wide range of constituents and build long-term relationships through stewardship.
- Ability to supervise, train, and mentor direct reports.
- Ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers with success in delegating and accomplishing goals through empowering volunteers.
- Ability to organize, plan and execute events, both in-person and digital experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve problems with grace and diplomacy
- Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment

Compensation & Benefits:
- Full-time, exempt /benefited position.
- Salary Range – $71,000 - $84,000 year, commensurate with education/experience.

- 403(b) retirement plan matching 100% of the employee contribution up to 6%, with immediate vesting.

Work Schedule
- 100% onsite – a typical schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm.
- Occasional evenings / weekends required for events
Working Conditions:
- Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed aboard the USS Midway in former administrative offices restored to basic working conditions.
- Physical Requirements: Sit for long periods of time. Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders; to bend, stoop, and lift standard office supplies and small office items.
- Equipment Operated: Computer, facsimile, printer, scanner, telephone.
