EDUCATOR AT THE USS MIDWAY MUSEUM PART-TIME

The USS Midway School Field Trip program has a great opportunity for experienced teachers looking to use their skills in an informal, fun, teaching environment. Our popular onboard program for grades 2 – 8 covering science, math and social studies has expanded and now includes Distance Learning/Virtual visits to the Midway. Summary of Responsibilities:
- Hourly Pay Rate: $22/hr
- Traditional school schedule: weekdays Monday – Friday, through the months SEP – JUN
- Work shift hours are 8:30am – 1:30pm
- 15-20 – hours per week
- Three (3) days per week required availability. Days vary based on department need.
- Provide educational instruction to school groups of all ages while on the USS Midway Museum
- Provide educational instruction to school groups of all ages using video conference software to conduct virtual visits from the USS Midway Museum.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education & Experience:
- One year of classroom teaching experience (or equivalent informal education).
- Classroom and Virtual Classroom management skills.
- Ability to explain technical, historical, and scientific information in an entertaining fashion.
- Enjoy working with elementary, middle, and high school students.
- Familiarity with the technology involved in operating video conferencing software platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google meets etc.
- Spanish as a second language is a plus.
- Candidates must be able to climb up and down stairs and crew ladders, perform light cleaning duties, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Pass Live Scan Background check.
Working Conditions:
- Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed onboard an aircraft carrier.
- Physical Requirements: Frequent climbing up/down stairs and crew ladders; ability to bend and stoop to lift, move and/or retrieve objects, artifacts, and teaching materials; pull, push, lift, and carry up to 20 lbs.; reach both above and below shoulder height.
